I was in my local bead shop the other day and browsing through all the new pendendants they had gotten in when I saw a woman on the other side of the table who was piling on pieces like there was no tomorrow. Most of them were cross pendants of one form or another, most were sterling silver but a few were made of jade or some other colored stone. I said hello and we started talking. It turns out she was teaching a class at the local senior center on how to make your own prayer beads just in time for Easter. But then she told me that she normally makes her own Rosaries and regularly sells them at craft shows and church bazaars!

I came home and started looking into this and it turns out the the Rosary is just one of many different types of prayer beads one can use in a variety of different faiths and religions.

In fact, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam many different faiths of Christianity and even some Native American and African faiths and cultures all use different types of prayer beads! And since over 75% of all Americans claim to follow some sort of faith, whether it be an organized church or simply a belief system, it would only make sense that a lot of people would be interested in beads which could help them celebrate their spirituality.

Prayer Bead are not really bead jewelry in the typical fashion sense, but rather the beads are usually used as a counting mechanism where the person says a prayer or thinks about certain things for each bead on the string. Prayer beads can be made out of just about any material, including cheaper material like glass and plastics to more expensive materials like crystal, stone and some unique wood.

There are lots of bead jewelry artisans making prayer beads on the Internet, but not very many are going to craft shows or local artist fairs. This means the market is wide open if you’re going to try to expand your jewelry business with prayer beads.

If you’re going to make prayer beads then I suggest you pick you craft shows carefully, do your homework and think carefully about packaging. You’ll want to make sure you are creating bead pieces that are faithful to whatever faith the beads are used by, and you might want to go to a local house of worship and show your wares to the people in charge there. Some churches and other places of worship will even bless your items for a nominal donation!

Prayer beads in particular often come with sample prayers, instructions on use or even a written history of the prayer bead tradition for a particular faith. I suggest you carefull research this and always include something written with each set of prayer beads you sell. You could even put that information on the back of one of your business cards for repeat business!

Chain and bead jewelry is often referred to as jump ring jewelry. The chain is a component of making jewelry, and it is often made from precious metal or inexpensive craft chains. Jump rings or split rings can be easily shaped with jewelry making supplies. Designers mix novelty beads as well as decorative fasteners and clasps as a finishing touch.
Beaded Chain Link Tassel Earrings
You can create your own tassel-style earrings by mixing beaded strands and chain links. Keep your earring length in mind when stringing your beads with a beading needle on beading thread. You can use beads such as gemstones, metal or freshwater pearl beads that are available in coin, rice and nugget shapes. You can add a decorative bead to the end of one chain link strand and place the beaded strands around it in a decorative pattern. Finish your tassel style earrings by wrapping the beading thread and chain link onto an open jump ring and attaching ear wires.
Charm and Bead Bracelet
Express your personality by choosing your favorite charms and bead colors to make a custom charm and bead bracelet. You can buy a craft chain in a gold or silver tone. You will also need jewelry making supplies such as chain nose pliers for opening jump rings or round nose pliers used for shaping loops and rings. Once you open your jump rings, insert each one separately into a link and add your charms and beads in an alternating pattern and close the rings carefully with your pliers. By adding two more open jump rings at each end, you can attach a lobster clasp to close the bracelet.
Multi-strand Bead and Chain Link Cuff
Fashionable wide cuffs can be made by designing multi-strand bead and chain link cuffs. You can incorporate precious metal or craft chains, keeping your bead type in mind such as crystal, glass or seed bead. It is best to add a cone or end cap to hold each beaded strand in place. Be creative and place your chains and beaded strands in an alternating pattern. By attaching open jump rings to each end of the chains and beaded wire strands, you can link the rings to a bar clasp. Close and shape each ring with your chain nose pliers to finish your cuff.

When it comes to wearing beads around your neck, there are rules for color and type just like for any fashion accessory. Just like you simply can’t wear white after Labor Day, there are certain colors and types of jewelry to stay away from for the fall!

The brighter the color, the more spring and summer it is. So while you may want to wear something more flashy, like a quartz or many of the different faceted stone beads, you instead want to tone it down just a bit.

Amber is perhaps the most fall-like colored bead material there is for jewelry. Not only does its rich, warm orange perfectly match the fall foliage, but it gives off an air of sophistication and mystery. Being a completely natural occurring material you can be sure that there were very little environmental consequences to wearing amber beads.

Darker and deeper colors for stone beads is also a better idea for the fall. While bright and rich turquoise beads are great for spring and summer necklaces and bracelets, they generate images of the sunny Southwest and so are less fitting when the temperature gets frigid and chilly.

Instead of turquoise, go with the darker blue of lapis lazuli. Lapis is the color of the bluest ocean you’ve ever seen. A dark, mysterious blue that is more attuned to the darkened skies of a Northeast autumn. You can find lapis lazuli beads in just about any size or shape, from round to faceted.

Likewise, the rich green of malachite, with its alternating light and dark layers is well-suited for the shorter days marking the end of the year. You can however, find malachite beads in solidly lighter or darker greens. If you run across these go for the darker greens for fall and save the lighter green, and light green jade, for the long hot days of summer.

If you are looking at gemstone beads, you want to again go for the darker looks. Dark red ruby beads will cost more, as well a dark green emerald and dark blue sapphire, but their luster and depth will stun those around you at cocktail parties and autumn events.

If you choose to intermix gold or silver with any of the precious or semi-precious stone beads for your fall look, go for the darker, tarnished beads instead of the highly polished and bright beads. The shiny gold and silver will detract from the dark richness of the stone beads, which should be the focal point of your necklace, earrings or bracelet.

Beaded jewelry, from necklaces to bracelets, is an important accessory to complement any wardrobe. Whether you make them yourself or buy them off the shelf, it’s important to get the right look.

Glass jewelry beads have been around literally for thousands of years. While today most glass jewelry beads are made by machine in ancient times they were made by hand requiring skilled craftsmen to create various shapes and designs. One of the first methods used in making glass beads that is still used by those who make handcrafted beads today is the wound bead method. The wound bead method consists of heating glass rods to a sufficient temperature to melt the glass and make it easy to work. This heated glass is then wound around a thin metal rod or wire covered in clay to make the releasing of the cooled bead easier.

Once the glass is wound around the metal wire to form a bead, the bead is then shaped using paddles or sand and left to cool. In some instances, small additional strands of glass in a different color are added to the bead to make different designs and add interest. Jewelry beads come in various sizes, shapes, colors and designs and are as popular today as they were a thousand years ago for the making of jewelry.

Glass jewelry beads are used to make necklaces, bracelets, earrings and even pins. Glass jewelry is versatile and quite popular among women of all ages. Part of the popularity of glass jewelry is that it adds a bit of sparkle and interest to any wardrobe while costing far less than precious or semi precious gem stones. Many women use these beads to make their own jewelry while others prefer to buy their glass jewelry already made.

What Type Of Clothing Is Glass Jewelry Worn With?

Glass beads jewelry can be worn with any type of clothing imaginable. It looks great with casual clothing such as jeans and tee shirts. While younger women enjoy wearing choker type necklaces with bright colors and interesting designs with their casual clothing, older women prefer wearing various style earrings and even bracelets.

This type of jewelry can also be used to enhance the working woman’s wardrobe. Pendant type necklaces and stud earrings add a splash of color and a little glitz to those plain suits and dresses without making you look over dressed or gaudy. Glass and chain bracelets also look great with business style clothes enhancing the clothing without going over the top.

Jewelry can also look elegant teamed with that little black dress for an evening out on the town or even for that prom or other special occasion. Choosing beads with a metallic finish or a unique shape can really make that formal wear stand out and leave you feeling chic and beautiful.

Beaded tablecloths add a touch of sophistication and chic to any occasion. Whether for everyday use or a special day, adding beads to ordinary cloth will make it into something you can be proud to share with family and friends. If you’re looking for a custom project that will add style to your decor, consider a tablecloth that will shine and dazzle when you add some beaded fringe. You can go with a simple seed bead or get fringe with classic pearls. Acrylic beads are a safe choice for everyday use.

1.Measure the bottom edge of the tablecloth. Make sure to go all the way around. Write the measurement down and take it with you when you go to buy your beaded fringe.

2.Select your fringe. Beaded fringe is available at most craft or fabric stores, priced based on the style of bead you choose.

3.Pin the fringe to the bottom of the tablecloth. Look closely at the edging on the fringe. If one side shows the threads or is dull, put that edge against the tablecloth. It is easier to pin small sections at a time, 1 to 2 inches. If your tablecloth has a hem, pin just above it. Otherwise, pin 1 or 2 inches above the edge of your tablecloth.

4.Sew the fringe on, using a needle and colored thread. Make small, even, simple stitches. Wider fringes may need sewn around the top edge and the bottom as well. If using a sewing machine, make sure the foot around the needle does not press down on any of the beads. Ease your fringe around the curve of an oval or circular cloth. For square tablecloths, make a small pleat at the corners; it should look like a “v.” Do not cut the fringe, just fold it

1.Decide on the length of the necklace you wish to make. Place a seamstress tape around your neck and measure to the point where your necklace will hang.

2.Add about 8 inches to this measurement to compensate for the braiding.

3.Cut two pieces of 18-gauge jewelry wire, about 3 inches long.

4.Make an eye loop on one of the 3-inch pieces. Leave a small gap for sliding in the strand loops.

5.Make an eye loop on the other 3-inch piece of wire, but leave a small gap so you can slide the other ends of the braided strands onto it.

6.Cut five pieces of 20-gauge jewelry wire or a flexible wire of the length you figured in step 2.

7.Attach one of the five pieces of wire by looping the end of the wire through the larger loop you made in step 4 and form a smaller loop.

8.Secure the smaller loop to the larger loop by sliding a crimp bead up and over the cut end of the wire. Close the bead with a pair of jewelry pliers. (See the Tips.)

9.Repeat this step with all five pieces of wire. When finished, you will have five wires attached to the large loop.

10.String beads onto each strand of wire. Make a loop at each end and attach a crimp bead to each end to hold the beads in place.

11.Braid the beaded strands: Lay them flat on a table and bring the left strand over two strands to the center, then take the right strand over two strands to the center.

12.Continue braiding until you get to the end of the strands. Braid loosely so that the wire will not look crimped.

13.Slide the loops onto the 3-inch piece you made in step 5 and close the loop.

14.Slide a bell cap onto each 3-inch piece and over the ends of the strands. This will cover the five loops.

15.Make an eye loop above the bell cap on both pieces. This is where the clasp will be attached.

16.wrap a piece of 24-gauge wire around the loop base to secure it.

17.Attach one end of the clasp to each side of the bead necklace.

Mica pigments contain a reflective quality like glitter, or an iridescent shimmer that is great for adding a sparkling quality to many different artistic projects including handmade jewelry. You can mix powdered mica with a clear binder, such as a clear acrylic paint, to create your own glittery, shimmery paints ideal for painting plain wood or clay beads. Gold metallic, silver and pearly micas are among your choices, as are other different metallic colors and glitter.

1.Prep your work area by laying down newspaper over a table and the floor.

2.Fill one cup with as much acrylic varnish as you think you will need. You can always make more later. The acrylic varnish will be used as the binder for this project.

3.Pour the mica powder into the varnish slowly. Stir it with your paintbrush as you go. Stop when you have a nice creamy consistency.

4.Create a drying rack for your beads out of a wire coat hanger. Take the coat hanger apart. With the help of a pair of pliers, unwind the top and cut the twisted end off with a pair of wire cutters or bolt cutters. Hang the hook of the coat hanger on a door knob or a nail. If the holes of your beads are smaller than the width of the wire coat hanger, use a thinner wire to form a rack with a hook.

5.Slip your beads onto the coat hanger where you cut off the twisted end. Dip your paint brush into the paint mixture and begin painting your beads. If you see that the paint is too thin, add more powdered mica and mix it well.

6.Leave the beads to dry for at least an hour. Then decide if you would like to add another coat.

7.Wait for the beads to dry completely and spray a coat of acrylic gloss on the beads to protect them.

8.Wait at least 24 hours for the acrylic gloss to dry. Then gently twist and slide your beads off of the wire hanger. You can now use your hand painted beads to make jewelry.

Bead jewelry can be very pretty. By making your own bead jewelry, you will be able to customize your accessories for funky, funny, vintage or just about any type you would like. Visit a local craft store and pick a variety of beads and you will have many hours of jewelry making to do. You will end up with different ideas of what you want

1.Make sure the necklace frame you purchase fits your neck the way you want it, taking into consideration the size of the beads. Some frames will be choker necklaces and some will be more loose on the neck.

2.Lay your design of the beads out on a flat surface in front of you. Play with the beads until you have a satisfactory design.

3.Begin with the middle bead of your design and slide it through the necklace frame. Continue with the rest of the beads, alternating from left to right or vice versa.

4.If your necklace frame has a hook on the back of the necklace for holding the necklace in place, start with the first bead of your design that will be on the same side as the hook and working your design from one side to the other instead of starting with the middle bead.

5.Since there are only two types of wire necklaces, the other type will not have a hook on the back. There will be small rubber ends on the wire. Slide these off to string the beads and then replace, as the rubber ends hold the beads in place. With this type of form, you simply tighten it to fit your neck. Beads can be either started in the middle or on each side.

When selecting perfect beads in making your own bracelet and necklace, you have innumerable sources to choose between. You want to ensure that your finished hand-crafted product is worth your costs, and naturally you would like them to look stunning when selling them. Along with your beads you may want to add some gold or silver, there are heaps of tips on how to pick gold charm jewelry that you’ll be able to find by researching online.

Choosing the ideal beads actually requires a lot of effort. Always ask yourself of the purpose, what type of jewelry will you be making, and what style of jewelry do you want to make. If you want to form ultra modern jewelry, you may possibly pick beads that are made of different colored glass and plastic as well as shining gold and silver colours. If you’re after with top of the range of jewelry, don’t choose cheap plastic beads, go forward and pick handmade glass beads or Lucite beads. These beads have high durability and they can retain their shine and beauty while plastic ones cannot.

If you want an ethnic look in your bracelet and necklace, you need to choose more earth tone beads, these beads has natural colours like black, brown, and tan color. You may try mixing painted wood beads with basic colours like yellow, green, and red, this may show more accents to your jewelry. Ethnic look jewelry can be design with recreating some African American jewelry, Native American jewelry, and beach jewelry with some shells, shark teeth, and pebbles.

You can look for beads that you would like for your bracelet and necklace online. Just ensure that when purchasing online, those beads have a return policy in case there are damages on beads. It’s a complete waste of cash paying for broken and useless beads. There are many places online that you can buy from, but the difficulty is trying to find trustworthy and inexpensive providers. The good thing about a site like eBay is that there is always feedback so you can see the history of the vendor. If you’re attempting to find beads then use eBay to find cheap beads. Apart from your beads there are many other materials that you can source from eBay, it is actually a place to find anything you need. The costs are generally less expensive; the one thing you need to be wary of is the price of posting and packaging. Sometimes the additional, hidden cost doesn’t make it worth your while purchasing from these suppliers.

However, if you would like to check and personally get your own beads, there are beads jewelry that are available in bulk lots. This idea of purchasing personally in bulk lots nearby is quicker compared to online shopping, in which you will have to wait for a couple of days. And again, ask if they also have a return policy when purchasing beads.

Lastly, just be sure to use different bead designs that suits your taste if it is for your bracelet or for your necklace. Anyhow beads are boundlessly available for bead fan like you!
